Why Namibia scales worse
Most municipal and borehole water here is rich in dissolved calcium and magnesium. Every time that water is heated or evaporated — a geyser, a boiler, a radiator, a cooling tower losing water to desert air — the minerals precipitate as scale. A few millimetres on a heating element can double its energy use before it cracks it.
The descaling ladder
Limex is the daily rung: kettles, urns, taps, fittings, shower glass — the multi-purpose lime remover on housekeeping and maintenance trolleys across the country.
Dicafas is the equipment rung: a sulphamic-acid powder dissolved fresh on site for geysers, radiators, washing machines and cooling towers. Powder travels safely up gravel roads and stores through summer heat, which is why remote sites prefer it.
Chloracid 90 is the heavy rung: an inhibited pickling and descaling acid for boilers, pipework and mining membrane filters. The inhibitor lets the acid dissolve scale for hours without attacking the sound metal behind it — the difference between descaling a boiler and perforating one.
Rules that keep acid work boring
Acid into water, never the reverse. No chlorine products anywhere near the job — bleach plus acid makes chlorine gas. PPE actually worn. Neutralise and flush before equipment returns to service. And descale on schedule, triggered by data (heating time, pressure drop), not on breakdown.
