Water treatment for an arid country

CCW 5 is a corrosion inhibitor for closed circuits — diesel engine jackets, caterpillar and heavy earthmoving equipment cooling systems, boat engines. Because the circuit is sealed, you are not fighting scale from fresh make-up water; you are fighting corrosion of mixed metals in stagnant-ish hot water. CCW 5 films the metal surfaces, and its built-in indicator colours the coolant so a fitter can see at a glance whether the charge is still active. Mines run it fleet-wide because a corroded liner seat costs more than a decade of inhibitor.

The growth in diesel tanks is actually microbial — bacteria and fungi living at the water–fuel interface that condensation creates inside a hot steel tank. Namibian heat cycles (hot days, cold nights) make condensation constant, and the resulting sludge blocks filters and injectors on trucks, boats and generators. Chemicide No 7 is the biocide dosed into the tank to kill the growth and keep it from re-establishing. Transport fleets dose their depot tanks; fishing companies dose the boats’ tanks — a blocked filter at sea is not a small problem.

Clearon is a chlorine granule with built-in pH control, which removes half the daily balancing act; Pool Acid corrects the upward pH drift that hard Namibian make-up water guarantees. The routine is short: dose Clearon against the morning test, correct pH weekly, and schedule partial water replacement rather than chasing an ever-harder balance — high evaporation concentrates dissolved solids faster here than pool manuals written for wetter climates assume.
